Our Beginning

One Formula, One Kitchen Table

Dehjavu Beauty started in 2019 when our founder, Maya Torres, got tired of lipstick that faded before lunch. She was working as a cosmetic chemist for a large manufacturer and saw firsthand how corners got cut in production. Pigment loads were halved to save costs. Moisturizing agents were replaced with cheaper fillers. The customer noticed, even if the marketing didn't acknowledge it.

Maya started formulating her own matte lipstick on weekends. Friends asked to buy it. Then their friends asked. By early 2020, she left her job and Dehjavu Beauty was officially born.

What We Stand For

No Shortcuts in the Formula

Every product goes through a minimum of twelve formulation rounds before it's approved for production. We test on real people with diverse skin types and tones, not on lab charts. Our testers wear each product through full workdays, workouts, and nights out before we sign off.

We're certified cruelty-free by Leaping Bunny. We publish our full ingredient lists, including the supplier origin for every active compound. Transparency is not a marketing angle for us. It's how we operate.

Our Team

Small Team, Big Standards

We're a team of nine based in Brooklyn, New York. Three of us work full-time in our formulation lab, four handle operations and customer service, and two manage creative direction and brand.

Maya still personally approves every product before it goes to production. She's the last person to test each batch, and she uses everything we sell. The team jokes that her desk drawer contains enough cosmetics to open a second store, but it means we never release something that doesn't meet her standard.

We're not trying to be the biggest beauty brand. We're trying to be the most trusted one.
